Chief Tedesco

Boy do I like the sound of that CHIEF TEDESCO! I know most of the Neighborhood heads are as happy as can be and I am leading that list, just jumping for JOY!

Why? The simple reason being of the history the groups of the City of Troy have had with John Tedesco when he was Captain of the Community Police. And why is he so popular? Because he has always done his job. I first met Chief Tedesco, years ago, while being involved in our South Lansingburgh group. We had been meeting for quite a while going over and over our problems of our ever changing neighborhood which was going downhill quickly. Let me preface this with, I had not previously had much success with the Police in Troy, I had some bad experiences when calling about problems, one being a young boy who I caught setting fire to my garage, others which involved others in our neighborhood when there was a local boy shooting out our windows with a BB gun. So the outlook on the Police helping us was 'not good'. Well we invited Tedesco to our meeting, he sat and listened and we talked. When some who don't like him call him "Mr. Personality" I have to laugh, because when you first meet him, he is ALL BUSINESS. He has what we call 'the puss' on, but he did listen and said 'this will be taken care of and this is what I can do for you", and let me tell you, it wasn't just Lip Service just to shut us up. He and his Officers went to work 'with' us. We developed a great relationship and he always stood by us. He was always just a phone call away, always RETURNED phone calls and emails, the attention was always there. My opinion of the Troy Police did a huge turn around. Though not a perfect force it is getting much better and will continue to do so and shine under his leadership.

The Downside was when he was promoted to Asst. Chief, we felt this would be a plus for us, but with this promotion his duties were taken away from him, things were not well in the Dept. another story for another time. We began the Merry Go Round of "Heads of Community Policing". It took a giant step backwards. There were times we weren't even notified there was a new Captain in charge. There were times when we would get a new Community Police Officer and not even know it as no one, the Dept. Head nor the Officer would contact us. Sometimes we LOST our Officer and didn't know it. It was in shambles, much like the Dept. is now. But NOT FOR LONG! Tedesco has great plans for the City and the Force. He is very organized and determined. The Officers badly need direction and they will receive it. There is some shuffleing going on now and we will be advised of more. Tedesco knows exactly what the Neighborhoods need and I for one am very happy. Let's give the Chief the support he needs to guide the Dept. in the most advantageous way for the Citizens of Troy.

Let's hear your comments and what you would like the Chief to do for the City and the Force. Let us not forget a great big HUGE THANK YOU to Mayor Harry Tutunjian for making the best selection of all. LONG LIVE THE CHIEF!!!!

  1. I do not know any of the candidates and have never been active in any neighborhood association. I just hope Chief Tedesco has the beat cops focus on real crime and less time enforcing seat belt and cell phone violations.

  2. We'll be looking for your opinion in 6 months.

"He’s also eyeing eliminating one community police officer and possibly a detective spot to boost patrol division numbers."

  3. Great job Tina! And right on. Direction, guidance, focus and purpose. Chief Tedesco does mean business and will bring the TPD where it needs to be. Community is what it's all about.

  5. I would also like to hear your opinion in 6 months. The grass is always greener. It seems you are never pleased with the Troy Police Department.

  6. To Anonymous, Why would you make the comment I am never pleased with the Police Dept.? I thought it was a very positive BLOG on the new appointment.

  7. Yes but I have read your previous blogs and been to meetings. You always have an issue with them apparently not doing their jobs. You are excited and positive now but when something doesn't go your way, I wonder what kind of blog we will see with your ideas about how they should do their jobs. I wonder if you should have taken up a career in law enforcement. Judging by your blogs, I feel like you think the city would be free of crime if you did.

  8. Te Troy PD has been a lazy bunch for the most part under Kaiser. This is why Fitz is so upset. Now th cops will be doing actual police work and hitting the streets. Right on the mark again Tina!

  9. Then why don't you do their job anonymous?

  10. Dear Anonymous-7:45 PM. To stay with your conversation, that you have been to our N. Assn. meetings and feel I/we always seem to have an issue with the Police Dept. You couldn't be farther from the truth, so if you are at the meetings what are your issues for being there, as that is the focus of the group and issues come on an indivual basis and at certain times. When we are not happy about an issue we raise it. We are open and honest, why be there if all were perfect. I suppose the other Neighborhood groups must be talking about baking cookies? Either you don't know me very well or like to make up stories to entertain yourself. Perhaps you yourself are a Officer, maybe this is a continuation of the Pubic Safety meeting? I heard that a couple of times "I read the BLOG". Identify yourself and I can answer the questions/concerns you seem to be misguided on. We meet as a group to better the Neigborhood and IF you truly are a resident you can see we have been lacking in help under the guidance of the past Chief. So does that clear that up? For the excited and postive part over the new Chief, I have worked a long time with this man, and apparently so have you, what is YOUR opinion? Why are YOU so negative, you don't think a City should be free of crime. I already know who YOU are why don't you let the rest of the BLOGGERS know?

  11. Tina,
You have been a breath of fresh air. I have been to numerous N. Central meetings and appreciate it that you keep it real. The fact is Fitzy is shady and lazy and wants the PD to remain that way. He has sullied the reputaions of us good cops by slinging his garbage.
Tedesco scares him because he is detail oriented and has the juevos to enforce the rules.
Fitzy does not run the PD anymore and he is scared!!!!!
Us cops KNOW SOS is too lazy and old to do crap for our city. Good riddence!

Tina, you do nothing but complain about the residence that live around your "Bed and Breakfast" unfortunately for you , you portray your Bed and Breakfast as some beautiful get away when in reality it's in the middle of a hell hole and when people get to your establishment and realize that, they want there money back. Your never happy with the job we do and just an FYI it's not your personal police dept. as for the person saying were lazy..if we didn't have to be social workers, marriage counselors, guidance counselors and raise have the cities children usually with 8 cops working the entire city maybe we could do "real police work" . To my brothers and sisters who are out there everynight trying to make a difference don't listen to these people, keep doing what your doing, you and I know that we do our best everyday and everynight.

  13. Give me a break ASSt. Chief Urzan!

If you think getting rid of S.O.S. is going to improve your quality of life you must be crazy. Tina I can't wait to see how you react when the dealers move right in your backyard. SOS and street crimes have two totally different missions and it's scary that the chief doesn't realize that. Street crimes , when they are in tact, is responsible for jumping out on people who are out on the street in plain view breaking the law, whether it be drinking in the street, playing dice, maybe smoking drugs, etc..SOS is involved in major drug investigations which require hours ,days, weeks if not months of investigations and dealing with CI's (confidential informants)..If the Chief isn't happy with the personell in SOS I can understand that but to eliminate the unit makes no sense. Tina, I know you think you know everything about everything but guess what ? you don't. SOS is needed and the citizens of Troy are going to learn this lesson the hard way..when the drugs are out of control. If you think the "beat" cop is going to make a difference with this issue, you are sadly mistaken. Tell me who is going to be handling the Domestic incidents, assault, robberies, larcenies, burglaries, harassments, fights, traffic accidents, non stop animal complaints, kids playing in the street complaints..suspicious persons, shot spotter activations, fire calls..I could go on for an hour...WHO do you think is going to have time for drug investigations? The truth is, you don't care! As long as we keep the corner of Glen Ave and 6th Ave clear of undisireables from in front of your "Mansion" thats all you care about.

  14. The Troy cops just want to go back to the way it was in the old days - busting up keg parties and giving speeding tickets on Route 40. Unfortunately we have real criminals to deal with now.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Right on the money Tina. Sorry to see some of our police officers aren't in agreement with you -- but I'll bet any of the neighborhood groups who have worked with John are.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I,agree with Anonymous about "the real criminals", we need to flush them out.

  17. pleasure to find such a good artical! please keep update!! ........................................

  18. For all of you who think the cops do nothing, you can request a ride along with them and see what they do in an 8 hour shift..there have been many civilian ride alongs and usually they see things different after. And for the anonymous who complained about speeding tickets...SLOW DOWN!

  19. look cops have it easy always did most believe they are above the law its ashame but thats the way it is and always will be most of there kids get breaks when they break the law and thats why fitz is so upset lets not act like it dont happen its happening right now!!

  20. You are an idiot and have absolutely no idea of what you are talking about!!!!

  21. OK, great comments, well some of them, let's keep it going I would like to hear more of how the Citizens feel about tne new appointment and ALSO how they feel about some to the comments written by those who are portraying themselves as 'Cops'. Maybe they are, maybe they aren't. If they are and want to set their comments in concrete, they can identify themselves. Until then, they are just senseless comments.

So now I am back from a very busy weekend and now have time myself to respond to some 'comments'. So let me start with the Anonoymous from Apr. 24 at 3:19. This person commented I had a problem with the Residents that live in Uptown/North Central. Sir..only some of them, and we all know the 'some of them' are the problem people, those whom don't work, stay out all night bothering people, drinking/drugging, getting rowdy. So who WOULDN'T have a problem with that?? Um.. you are a Cop, obviously I am not alone.
You state I portray my Business a Bed and Breakfast as some beautiful "get away". Yes the building and house is very beautiful and the Guests who come here think so too, and enjoy being able to relax here. Is it a 'Get Away"? No I don't market it that way, nor do I market it as a place for Romantic weekends and so on and so forth. My Guests come here due to their need to be in the City of Troy, RPI,Emma Willard and the State Offices are where I draw the most from. Others use to live here and now work out of State and come to visit Parents in Nursing Homes, come for Graduations and Funerals. HVCC has Certification classes on the weekends and I get many people for those. LOTS of people come from referrals from OTHERS who have already been here and return repeatedly. BUSINESS people refer their Clients to me. So for as much as you seem to know, after 11 years of being in business SOMEONE must be coming as the bills on this house are enormous.
You also stated you are not MY personal Police Dept. I probably have made 6-8 calls during the 11yrs. for myself, the rest have been for Neighbors who are afraid to call from past experiences. You went on to recall all these AWFUL things you have to do as a Police Officer. THAT'S what you were hired for, QUIT if you don't like it. And PLEASE Blog on again and enlighten us all to what REAL POLICE WORK is, we are dying to hear, seeing all that you listed before doesn't seem to be.You called out to your fellow Officers not to listen to us. Hello Chief Tedesco are you READING this. Please Officer Blogger let us know who you are so we can help you retire from this AWFUL job that pays so well, from the community Taxpayers.

Tomorrow, the NEXT response, and please Citizens, don't be afraid to BLOG like you are afraid to CALL! Let us know what YOU think!

  22. Oh yeah, the cops like to sit and chat with each other at that church parking lot at 101st and 2nd Ave. One time a friend of mine lived in an apartment next to it and saw them smoking a joint. Is that real police work?

    ReplyDelete
  23. There are good cops and bad cops I have seen them both on the police department. What the public asks for is an honest days work and protection of life and property. I think the new chief is on the right track for that purpose. This is what Tina is asking for also is that so bad? When people speak up the people that are not doing their job do the most yelling.

  24. If Schroonmaker was still on the job, criminal activity wouldnt be occuring in the neighborhood. Bring back Schoony

  25. Tina, Having lived through the "summer of riots" on Sixth Ave. and the changing police captains, it is with joy and pleasure to hear that John is back as Captain. As anyone who lives or has lived in Uptown (aka North Central) knows, we live and die by a good and active police force. John makes his union brethern work. John is not beholden to the politics of City Hall. John does not play favorites. Our City needs John to capture the armed robber in Downtown that I guess was too unimportant for others to get involved in. Our city also needs John's ongoing leadership to maintain consistency. Tina, sorry you have to hear such negative comments from some of our er- neighbors (?) Keep the faith!

  26. I fully support the new Chief of Police, John Tedesco. When he was head of Community Police he worked with the neighborhood associations educating us and informing us of things we needed to know to help make our neighborhoods safe. I already see some new action with the posting of pictures of the most wanted criminals in Troy. I think it is an excellent idea. Too bad we couldn't have slumlords pictures in the picture too.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Tina why don't you do a ride along? Then maybe you can speak with a little bit of knowledge.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hi Anonymous/May 17th,

I have done a "Ride a long" I would like to do more but my schedule is real tight. What I write about in the BLOG is a combination of Personal experience and the Folks in the Neighborhood Assn. and Citizens I happen to meet in everyday life. Also being on the Police Review Board gives me an insight also that adds to what could be changed and improved. Anyone who works any job knows that everything can go as smooth as all would like it to be and some have ideas that are different than others as to how the Police Dept. should be run, and the Officers perform. Also entering into it right now are the migration problems we never had before the bag of tricks that they bring. This needs a different style of Policing the Dept. didn't need 20 years ago. I believe with the 30+ yrs. Chief Tedesco has in and being in various depts. he will bring a new swing to the way these problems are attacked. The Citizens that are suffering from the everyday 'Quality of Life' issues affecting them everyday are begging for this. If we could remove the negativity of his appointment from the minds of some of the Officers I think we could move forward a lot faster.
