With the recent tragedy of a 5 year old who lost his life while crossing a busy street that has been very well written about, I have to wonder if any lesson has been learned?
2 days ago I observed a Mom sitting on her porch while her ‘about’ 2 year old rode her little “Big Wheel’ in the middle of Glen Ave. Glen Ave is not a high volume street but does get plenty of traffic. It is also a one-way street which has PLENTY of people who do not take notice of the fact it is, and zoom down the street the wrong way. If they don’t notice that sign, will they n notice a little girl in the middle of the street on her toy? This also shows the lack of responsibility of the Parent to teach the education of the respect of the street to the child? How is the child to know this street or ANY street can be dangerous, when she is allowed to do this?
This morning I observe 2 kids on a bike riding down the middle of Sixth Ave. a very busy street. One was standing on the protrusions of the back wheel while the other was steering with one hand while talking on his CELL PHONE with the other!! Geez…….I want to go CRAZY!!
Other problems are the parents putting the Pools out on the sidewalks and tons of kids playing on them and running around, another tragedy waiting to happen. The BBQ’s out on the sidewalk with hordes of people eating, dancing, music blasting and kids running around unsupervised. These homes ALL have backyards, big ones in this area; a child in a backyard is less likely to become a victim as our last little boy than one on the street.
We need to have common sense and if we don’t the blame is all our own. Our Police force on patrol should stop and tell the irresponsible people to take it to a safe place. Backyards and parks are there for these purposes.
Let’s hear from those who would like to add or comment on our problems.
i agree about hanging on the steps all day long and cooking outside..........where did this generate from and when? the loud music all day and all night, those of you who do this have no respect for yourselves or pride, so you cannot bitch when other's stereotype, no other sections of troy cook outside or hang out all day every day if it is to become a way of life for you , please don;t make it a part of our lives, when we have to ride by it is really disgusting and you alone are at fault for the reputations you so earned
ReplyDeleteThe lesson has not been learned since I see mothers driving while cell-phoning, snacking and brushing off STOP signs... with small children in the car.
ReplyDeleteWay to go Tina, Keep calling code Enforcement!!
ReplyDeleteI used to work in that area of troy where Tina is . In fact i used to work at the Stewarts right across the street from her. The amount of kids that would run around come in the store without their parents; was udderly ridiculous and stupid. I agree with her that the cops should do something more about it. but we know that wont happen.
ReplyDeleteIf someone is bbqing in front call the fire dept or 911
ReplyDeleteI think tina is right about the lack of responsibility that these young parents have these days but in order to help we need to make these parents resonsibility, and most of it come from these drugs that are here in are streets of Troy, and down by the old judge mansion anybody that is from Troy know's that almost every house down there sell's DRUGS if you don't know it because you don't want to know.Start cleaning the streets, arresting parents for teaching there kids to sell drugs skip school stealing from stores and things will start to get better start holding the parents atfault
ReplyDeleteFirst off I would like to say that there certainly are other sections of Troy that cook outside in the front and hang out all day. So it is not just our area in North Central. I also don't know what the "so you cannot bitch when others stereotype" comment is all about, but let me just say that I have seen hanging out all day and cooking out front being done by white people, black people and hispanic people. Acting badly is no respector of race or ethnicity. I just wanted to say that in case that comment was being directed at a particular race of people. If that is not what was meant, then I do apologize to the writer of that comment.
ReplyDeleteGetting back to this issue, I have had to slow down while driving my car into this neighborhood to get home because of people of all ages walking into the street to cross regardless of whether or not they have the green light. Anyplace where there is a convenience store is always a hangout. I can't wait for school to start again next week. I am so sick and tired of people walking up and down the streets and littering. Every day I have to clean up soda cans and bottles. Some are even still half full with the beverage. I also pick up paper plates, potato chip bags, plastic cups, candy wrappers, straws and the like.
I rented for mamny years before I purchased my first home in 1999. When I was a renter I took care of my apartment and did not litter in the streets. One does not have to be a home owner to have pride in one's neighborhood.
I don't even bother anymore to try to get good people I know to buy here. As you drive up and down the streets and see all the people hanging out all day, cooking out front, old sofas out in the front, the pools out front, it all turns off good people who would be welcomed to have as neighbors.
look south troy is filled w/young mothers w/several kids on social services all single most come from down state and take advantage of our easy welfare in our county,Our city is filled w/this filt there is no middle class here any more every thing is about welfare,THATS WHY OUR ONCE PROUD CITY IS DOOMED!! EUROPEANS ARE STAYING AWAY AS IS WORKING CLASS!
ReplyDeleteWow,''Europeans are staying away''. You are a racist. We don't need your kind in Troy, n.y.
